Yellowstone National Park is one of Wyoming’s most popular camping destinations. It’s no surprise: Yellowstone is one of the most beautiful national parks in the country. Aside from the Yellowstone National Park area, Wyoming has a plethora of free camping alternatives. The Bureau of Land Management, or BLM Wyoming, is in charge of managing the state’s publicly owned land.
Wyoming RV camping locations are easy to find, and with two of the Nations most popular National Parks, Wyoming is a popular vacation destination. Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, private RV parks, BLM (Bureau of Land Management), and USFS (US Forest Service), Wyoming parks, and wildlife areas offer all types of Wyoming RV camping locations.
BLM-managed land covers over half of Wyoming. Away from designated recreation areas, dispersed camping is permitted on most BLM territory. Dispersed camping is free, however, campers should be aware of the restrictions and regulations.
Some of these are:
✪ Stick to the stay limitations. On BLM land, campers are allowed to stay in one area for 14 days. After that, they must travel at least 25 miles away from the original campsite and cannot return for a period of 28 days. This crucial criterion helps to prevent resource misuse in any particular area.
✪ Signs indicating that the area is closed to camping. Camping may be prohibited in some regions to protect wildlife or natural resources.
✪ Adhere to the ideals of Leave No Trace. This involves selecting pre-existing campsites with stable ground, packing up all trash and waste, and following fire safety precautions.
✪ Private property should be respected. The BLM does not manage all of the land. By occupying private property, you will not be able to take advantage of Wyoming’s free camping.

Medicine Bow National Forest

On the national forests and national grasslands, there are a range of camping options. There are numerous options available, ranging from cabin rentals to boondocking locations in Wyoming. While there are no electric, sewer, or water hookups or showers, most authorized campgrounds do include potable water, picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets. On the woodlands and grasslands, there are a variety of tent camping, camper and RV camping, and cottage options.
