Free Campsites in Wyoming State Park & National Park Campgrounds

Wyoming State Parks and National Park campgrounds provide the ideal balance for those wishing to be close to nature without sacrificing the necessities. You’ll have access to basic restrooms, garbage cans, and a campground attendant who can answer any queries you might have. Usually, there will be a store nearby where you may get firewood, fuel, snacks, and ice. Potable water is available at most campgrounds, but double-check before you go. Most free campgrounds in Wyoming State Parks and National Parks require previous reservations and fill up quickly. Make a reservation for a campsite well in advance of your vacation.

Wyoming Boondocking Campsites in National Forest Service & Bureau of Land Management

Campgrounds run by the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management are comparable to those run by National Parks, but they are usually less popular. Many of the locations are open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis and these Wyoming boondocking campsites do not require reservations. Please keep in mind that staying at a designated campground on these properties is not the same as dispersed camping. A list of campgrounds can be found on the land agency’s website. You can learn about the reservation system, facilities, prices, and road accessibility by clicking on a certain campground.

These Wyoming boondocking campsites are frequently less expensive, but facilities vary greatly amongst them. Because more rural campgrounds aren’t always serviced, carry toilet paper for the pit toilets. While many Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management campgrounds have potable water and trash service, you should always double-check ahead of time. If there isn’t any available, make sure you have enough water for cooking, cleaning, maintaining your fire, and drinking for the duration of your trip!
