Free Kansas Boondocking

Welcome to Kansas, nicknamed the Sunflower State, also known as the Jayhawk State, the Midway State, and the Wheat State. This plains and grassland region is the country’s breadbasket, producing more wheat than any other state in the union.

The Santa Fe Trail carried hundreds of wagons through Kansas in 1822, and Kansas became a state in 1861 as the population swelled. Cattle drives and railroads continued to shape the state’s landscape, and Dodge City grew to become the world’s largest cattle market, earning it prominence as the rough and tumble home of characters like Wyatt Earp, Wild Bill Hickok, and Bat Masterson. The agricultural economy is now based on cattle, wheat, corn, and soybeans.
