You won’t have all the conveniences of an RV campground when boondocking, also known as dispersed camping. Many RVers, though, are drawn to the option to be self-sufficient and off the grid. Boondocking is a fantastic way to reconnect with nature in some of Alabama’s most beautiful forests and parks. This was a great spot. If you car camping, you’ll be right on the road, but barely any cars drove by. Flat ground in a large dirt lot, with a porta john. There are also really nice places to camp if you walk a ways in to the trails, but it’s a bit of a hike. And the hiking is really cool to! Waterfalls at the end of the 3.5 mile trail. I thought this was one of the better Alabama boondocking locations I visited.

The only physically disabled hunting area in the Talladega National Forest. This camp is a 1700 acre hunting unit for physically disabled hunters possessing the required State permits in Choccolocco Wildlife Management Area.

Drive down gravel road short ways. Just after you cross a bridge over a small creek there is a small campsite on your right just big enough for one car. Great Free Alabama camping spots with a pit and right next to the creek. The turn off from the road is pretty steep but I was able to get up it with my 2wd.

No water, electric, outhouse etc. quiet with lots of space between sites. Room for large RV or Trailer, if you don’t have 4wd park in the first spot on right or next spot on left, especially if ground is wet.

Not sure why this gem is not on Free Campsites it is one of the best Alabama boondocking locations I found. Rest areas are generally noisy and not our preferred stop while traveling but this one is far from your average rest area. the welcome center is architecturally beautiful and the parking areas huge with several paved and well lighted parking lots.
