The state’s northernmost regions include the Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the larger Appalachian Mountain system. The Piedmont plateau extends from the foothills of the Blue Ridge south to the Fall Line, an escarpment to the Coastal Plain defining the state’s southern region. About Boondocking Georgia
Camping in Georgia is a long-standing pastime that attracts visitors from all around the country each season. Our state has several fantastic camping places, whether you’re camping high in the North Georgia highlands or along the Georgia coast.
Free scattered camping is available on Forest Service land, Army Corps of Engineers-managed sites, and Georgia State Parks. In certain private parking lots, dry camping is permitted, although city rules prohibit it in cities including Atlanta, Columbus, and Macon. A lot of the boondocking, RV Parking and Camping Spots require a Georgia Lands Pass. Before you head out, check the Prices For All Georgia Permits. (Georgia Lands Pass is at bottom the chart)
In comparison to the Western United States, the South does not have nearly as many boondocking spots. Because the federal government does not possess as much land in Georgia as it does in the west, it is up to the state and municipal governments to set up boondocking sites.
In Georgia, the great majority of boondocking occurs in wildlife management areas that are open to hunters for at least part of the year. It’s better to wear bright orange apparel and make your presence known during hunting season.
