Free SW Kansas Boondocking Locations
While the majority of Kansas State Parks, Fishing Lakes, and Wildlife Places only allow camping in specific areas, there are a select number that explicitly allow dispersed camping: Big Hill Wildlife Area — located near Parsons, allows “basic backpack camping” anywhere on the grounds.
In this state, there are more opportunities for free overnight SW Kansas camping sites to be used. Be respectful of other customers and attempt to remain as unobtrusive as possible – in general, etiquette dictates that you do not set out your chairs or awning, and that you otherwise remain unobtrusive. These are, nevertheless, totally legal places to stay the night.
The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism (which was recently renamed) has state fishing lakes. These are places where you can camp for free, albeit in a rudimentary manner. They will have pit toilets but will not have access to potable water. You can camp for up to 14 days.
Kansas has 28 State Parks
There are twenty-eight state parks in Kansas that beckon you to get out and explore the great outdoors. A Kansas state park has something for everyone, whether it’s SW Kansas hiking, camping, wildlife watching, fishing, biking, horseback riding, hunting, or just plain relaxing.
The majority provide rustic and utility campsites as well as access to lakes, trails, and wildlife areas. Free SW Kansas boondocking locations are available at a handful of natural sites that have been maintained so that you can appreciate unspoilt Kansas.
Along the shorelines of Cedar Bluff Reservoir, Cedar Bluff State Park is divided into two distinct regions. Visitors can enjoy almost 350 acres of land in the Bluffton Area on the north shore. A perfect area for SW Kansas camping sites.
It is the most developed area, with a wide range of facilities to fulfill the demands of outdoor enthusiasts. Two boat ramps, 96 utility campsites for SW Kansas RV Parking, and two community shelters.
They have a reservable group-utility-campground, two huge shower houses and dumpstations. There are five modern rental cabins and numerous SW Kansas RV Parking with primitive campsites and picnic spots are available.
Enjoy activities such as sand volleyball, horseshoes, shore side basketball, riding on our BMX track, and swimming on our beach while you’re here. In addition, fishing in the Bluffton area can be excellent. Almost the entire shoreline is accessible, and there is also a covered, handicapped-accessible fishing dock.
The Page Creek Area, located on the reservoir’s south shore, is roughly 500 acres in size. It is less developed, but with its enormous shade trees and sandy shorelines, it offers some of the best basic SW Kansas camping sites in the state. Secluded Camping in Kansas.
There are 36 utility campsites, a community shelter, two dumpstations, two boat ramp facilities, two shower houses, and two vault toilets in the Page Creek Area. They also have one approved primitive campground and a large number of unmarked campsites. Boaters, jet skiers, and those seeking a little more quiet when resting outside will enjoy this region.
Almost every county has at least one free fishing lake, with a bathroom and perhaps a water faucet. All of the lakes where we’ve tented have rock jetties that extend from the shore out into the water, allowing you to camp, construct a fire, and fish.
Despite the fact that the majority of these lakes are within 20-30 miles of a town, you will rarely receive cell phone service. However, the different lakes provide you with lovely scenery around the clock.
Free SW Kansas RV Parking Campground with Hookups
One of the most appealing advantages of having an RV is the ability to travel on a budget. The bulk of campgrounds cost between $25 and $35 per night, and even the most classy RV parks are still less expensive than hotel rooms.
There are times, though, when you want to get away but can’t afford to stay in a traditional campground. According to AARP, financial restraints prevent 40 percent to 49 percent of seniors from traveling. Look for free camping instead of skipping expeditions completely.
Most people associate free camping with boondocking or dry camping, which entails SW Kansas hiking, venturing out into the wilderness and living off the grid. This is a type of free camping, and there’s nothing wrong with a good boondocking trip, especially if you have solar panels, a generator, and lots of fresh water on hand.

Davis Park
Greensburg, Kansas is a small community west of Wichita. It’s a beautiful spot to get away from the bustle of city life and relax in the comfort of a little town. We recommend visiting the Big Well Museum and dining at some of the area’s local restaurants.
Davis Park in this town is home to the last of the free SW Kansas boondocking and campgrounds. There are six sites available, each with 20-amp electrical service. Potable water is available from two onsite water spigots that are not directly adjacent to the campers. Just keep in mind that throughout the winter, these spigots are completely shut off.
The SW Kansas camping sites are located in a park with a baseball field and a lovely playground, making it a great area for youngsters to play. However, there are no showers or bathrooms, and there is no dump station, so prepare appropriately. As you can see, thanks to all of these free campgrounds in Kansas, the Sunflower State is an excellent area to take a low-cost tour of the SW Kansas Boondocking Locations.

There are 1-5 campsites at this location and the maximum RV length is 40 feet. You may stay 3 days at Medicine Lodge City Park. Located on Highway 160 East. Stop and relax on your travels through Medicine Lodge. Enjoy camping (with hook-ups), picnics, and our swimming pool.
2. Free SW Kansas Boondocking Locations – Clark County State Lake

This Kansas state fishing lake is easily accessible and has a paved entrance road on the east side right down to the campsites. The 300 acre lake is situated in a large canyon and it’s beautiful! On the east side there are about 12 campsites but many of them are very close together. If you’re like me, preferring to be away from other people, the west side is worth the extra effort it takes to get there. You can camp here for up to 14 consecutive days.

Meade City Park is open Year round. There are 1-5 campsites at this location. Restroom facilities are clean, grounds are level and if you park away from the road towards the restrooms it is very quiet as the speed limit is reduced here.

Free Dispersed camping in the Pike and San Isabel National Forests’s Cimarron Ranger District. This campsite does nuse a reservation systerm. First come, first served. Stopped here en route from NM to WI. It was a nice, clean, accessible place to stop for the night. Clean, no fires. We are in a jeep and tent camping.
5. SW Kansas Hiking – Wilburton Pond – Dispersed

Wilburton Pond – dispersed is open No fires. Free Dispersed camping in the Pike and San Isabel National Forests’s Cimarron Ranger District. First come -> first served. No reservations accepted. Traveling back to Wichita from N.M. and need a place to camp for the night. The place is quiet and did it’s job of being an overnight crash pad.
