NE Montana Boondocking Locations

North-Central Montana Boondocking Campsites

Because many free Montana boondocking sites are located miles from a town, you should bring ample food and drink. Water is available in some dispersed campgrounds, but not all. You should bring a technique to cleanse water from streams with you. Keep your food in a food locker out of reach of bears and other wildlife.

When planning your Montana boondocking adventure, keep in mind that many of the sites are located in relatively isolated places. As a result, it is recommended to leave a thorough schedule with someone who will not be accompanying you on your journey. Because cell phones may not function in rural regions, it’s also critical to prepare for emergencies by bringing along basic medical supplies.

Montana boondocking sites are all over Bureau of Land Management lands. They are responsible for the management of over 30 million acres of land across the state. That’s over a third of the state of Montana! The good news for campers is that much of Montana boondocking camps are free on BLM land. Make sure to note any fees related with BLM campgrounds when investigating them. Some BLM campgrounds need purchased permits, despite the fact that many places allow free camping.
