Florida does not appear on many boondocking lists. But Free Florida Boondocking from Panhandle to Everglades is found the US Forest Service and the Florida Water Management Districts. Perhaps it’s because huge cities like Miami, Jacksonville, and Tampa are synonymous with Florida. All of those major centers, though, are on the shore, leaving Florida’s interior primarily undeveloped and open to camping.

About Florida Boondocking
Camping in Florida is a little more challenging than camping in the western states, where there is plenty of BLM and National Forest land. Wetlands cover 29 percent of the state, which isn’t always the best area to park an RV. Many of the best places to boondocking in Florida are in Water District Management Areas, which allow you to camp for up to six nights.
Most people think of Florida as a beachy paradise, but the best dry camping spots are inland, where lush forests and shimmering lakes reign supreme. So don’t be dismayed; there are still plenty of locations to camp, and many of them are close to some of Florida’s most popular attractions.
