10. Australian Sausage Rolls Recipe

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground pork sausage
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten for egg wash

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork sausage, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out each sheet of puff pastry into a 12x9-inch rectangle.
  • Cut each pastry sheet in half lengthwise to make 4 rectangles.
  • Divide the sausage mixture into 8 equal portions.
  • Place each portion of sausage mixture along the center of each pastry rectangle.
  • Brush the edges of the pastry with the beaten egg.
  • Roll up the pastry tightly around the sausage mixture, tucking in the edges as you go.
  • Place the rolls seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Brush the top of each roll with the egg wash.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the sausage is cooked through.
  • Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Tips and Tricks

Use pre-made puff pastry to save time and effort.
Make the sausage mixture in advance and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use.
If the puff pastry is too soft, chill it in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes before rolling it out.
Use a sharp knife to cut the pastry and sausage rolls to prevent the filling from leaking out.
