Method
- Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, active dry yeast, and salt.
- In a small saucepan, heat the whole milk until warm, but not boiling.
- Add the melted unsalted butter and water to the warm milk, stirring well.
- Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for approximately 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shaping and Second Rise
- Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down to release any air bubbles.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a round bun.
- Place the buns on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover with a kitchen towel, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Preparing Toppings
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a small bowl, beat the eggs until well mixed.
- Optional: If desired, prepare a simple glaze by combining powdered sugar and a small amount of water, stirring until smooth.
Egg Wash and Toppings
- Brush the risen buns with the beaten eggs, ensuring they are fully coated.
- Sprinkle any desired toppings, such as pearl sugar or coconut flakes, over the buns.
- Optional: Pipe a cross of icing or glaze on top of each bun.
Baking
- Place the baking sheet with the prepared buns in the preheated oven.
- Bake for approximately 15-20 minutes or until the buns turn golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let the buns cool on a wire rack.
Serving
- Once cooled, the Norwegian Epcot School Breads are ready to be served.
- They can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature.
- Serve as a delicious snack or dessert, perfect with a cup of coffee or tea.
