Choose a high-quality cut of meat to begin with, such a ribeye or sirloin.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. sirloin steak, sliced thinly
  • 8 hoagie rolls or baguettes
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 8 slices of cheddar cheese
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomato
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Olive oil
  • Butter
  • Tangy sauce (optional)

Equipment

  • Grill or stovetop
  • Frying pan
  • Tongs or spatula
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

  1. Preheat the grill or stovetop to medium-high heat.
  2. Season the sliced steak with salt and black pepper.
  3. Grill or cook the steak until it is cooked to your liking.
  4. Meanwhile, heat some olive oil and butter in a frying pan and caramelize the sliced onions until they are soft and golden brown.
  5. Slice the hoagie rolls or baguettes lengthwise.
  6. Place a slice of cheddar cheese on the bottom half of each roll.
  7. Add the cooked steak on top of the cheese.
  8. Top with caramelized onions, lettuce, and sliced tomato.
  9. Spread some tangy sauce (optional) on the top half of the roll.
  10. Close the sandwich and press it lightly.
