Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Aluminum foil

Ingredients

  • 1 medium-sized cabbage chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked white rice
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 can 14.5 oz diced tomatoes
  • 1 can 10.5 oz condensed tomato soup
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat until beef is browned and onion is soft. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add chopped cabbage to the skillet and stir well.
  • Add uncooked rice, diced tomatoes, condensed tomato soup, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and 2 cups of water to the skillet. Stir until well combined.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Pour the mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the mixture.
  • Cut butter into small pieces and dot over the top of the cheese.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown.

Notes

Tips and  Tricks

Cook the ground beef and onion ahead of time and store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
Use a food processor or mandolin to chop the cabbage quickly and evenly.
Use a non-stick skillet to avoid sticking and burning.
Add a splash of Worcestershire sauce or red wine for extra flavor.
Top with additional cheese or breadcrumbs for a crispy crust.
