7. Australian Steak Sandwich Recipe

Equipment

  • Grill or stovetop
  • Frying pan
  • Tongs or spatula
  • Knife and cutting board

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. sirloin steak, sliced thinly
  • 8 hoagie rolls or baguettes
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 8 slices of cheddar cheese
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomato
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Olive oil
  • Butter
  • Tangy sauce (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the grill or stovetop to medium-high heat.
  • Season the sliced steak with salt and black pepper.
  • Grill or cook the steak until it is cooked to your liking.
  • Meanwhile, heat some olive oil and butter in a frying pan and caramelize the sliced onions until they are soft and golden brown.
  • Slice the hoagie rolls or baguettes lengthwise.
  • Place a slice of cheddar cheese on the bottom half of each roll.
  • Add the cooked steak on top of the cheese.
  • Top with caramelized onions, lettuce, and sliced tomato.
  • Spread some tangy sauce (optional) on the top half of the roll.
  • Close the sandwich and press it lightly.

Notes

Tips and Tricks

Use a meat tenderizer or marinate the steak in advance to make it more tender and flavorful.
To make the caramelized onions faster, add a pinch of sugar to the frying pan while cooking.
Use a panini press or grill press to compress the sandwich and melt the cheese evenly.
To make the sandwich healthier, use whole grain bread and low-fat cheese.
