Dutch Stamppot Recipe

Equipment

  • Large pot for boiling potatoes
  • Another pot for blanching kale
  • Large skillet for cooking smoked sausage
  • Potato masher or fork
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 pound kale, stems removed and chopped
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Boil the potatoes in a large pot of salted water for 20-25 minutes, or until tender.
  • In a separate pot, blanch the kale for 2-3 minutes until wilted. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, cook the smoked sausage over medium heat until browned on both sides.
  • Drain the potatoes and mash them with a potato masher or fork until smooth.
  • Add the kale, milk, butter, and salt and pepper to the mashed potatoes. Stir until well combined.
  • Add the sliced smoked sausage to the potato mixture and stir again.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Tips and Tricks

Use a potato ricer instead of a potato masher for a smoother texture.
To make the stamppot creamier, add more butter or cream cheese to the potato mixture.
If you want a chunkier texture, leave some potato pieces un-mashed.
You can also add chopped onions, garlic or bacon for extra flavor.
