Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread sliced
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 1 cup chopped cashews
  • 1 cup grated cheese
  • 1 can condensed milk

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a saucepan, bring the water, brown sugar, cinnamon stick, ground cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Remove the cinnamon stick and set aside the syrup.
  • In a baking dish, layer the sliced bread, raisins, grated coconut, and chopped cashews.
  • Pour the syrup over the layers, making sure everything is well covered.
  • Sprinkle the grated cheese on top.
  • Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Drizzle condensed milk over the top before serving.

Notes

Tips and Tricks

You can prepare the syrup in advance and store it in the refrigerator until you are ready to assemble the dish.
To make the dish healthier, you can use whole wheat bread instead of French bread and reduce the amount of sugar used.
You can add sliced bananas to the layers for extra sweetness and texture.
