Equipment

Ingredients

For the Pastry:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 1/4 cup cold water

For the Filling:

  • 2 cups mincemeat filling
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • To make the pastry, mix together the flour and butter in a large mixing bowl until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
  • Add the cold water and mix until a dough forms.
  • Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface until it's about 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick.
  • Cut the pastry into 8 rounds using a 4-inch (10 cm) cookie cutter.
  • Place the pastry rounds in the cups of a muffin tin and press them down gently.
  • Spoon the mincemeat filling into the pastry cups, filling them to the top.
  • Sprinkle the slivered almonds on top of the mincemeat filling.
  • Brush the beaten egg over the edges of the pastry.
  • Bake the pies in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
  • Remove the pies from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

Use store-bought mincemeat filling to save time and effort.
Chill the pastry dough for at least 30 minutes before rolling it out to make it easier to handle.
Use a cookie cutter or a small bowl to cut the pastry into rounds.
